I disappeared from here because I got so frustrated with my book that I gave up and went away--silly me. I can have a blog without a book. Actually, I have a couple of blogs that kind of limp along already and there's no reason this one can't as well. So, all that said, I'm back--occasionally, anyway.
I may pull bits and pieces out of the book I was writing, I may just write new stuff--who knows? What I DO know is that I've missed you and my writing.
Now I have to tell you what inspired me to come back to my blog about my love of being frugal. I wanted to make a bowl of oatmeal for lunch. I'd been thinking about it for at least a week and there just never seemed to be the right time to make it. Today was the day. Out came my 2-quart pan, measuring cup, and the big storage container of oatmeal. Yes, big storage container of oatmeal. I got a gigantic box of it at Costco and put one of the two bags of it in my giant Tupperware storage canister thing.
What I didn't include in there was the little recipe thing off the back of the box. After all, I've been making oatmeal for almost 50 years--who needs the instructions? Obviously, I do. I pulled everything out and then stood there, not being able to remember if it was 1 part water to 2 parts oats or the other way around. It seemed to make sense that there was more water than oats but if there wasn't I'd end up with more oatmeal than I could eat in several days. The same was true if I got it wrong the other way around. (This could probably have happened to me when I was 30 but I'm having a hard time imagining it.)
I got on the Internet (of course) and went in search of that simple, little bit of information. Apparently it was TOO simple. I looked at 6 or 7 of the first Google results with absolutely no luck at all. What I did find, however was The Simple Dollar. Ah, a kindred soul! Someone who knows the value and joy of saving money. It was such a joy to read that I found myself inspired to come back to my blog and see what I was inspired to write.
I still have far more to do than I have time to do it but my intentions are always good so sign up for the Feedblitz email notification and come on along for the ride.
Oh! Almost forgot! I called Quaker Oats and a very helpful young man told me it was two parts water to one part oats (with a pinch of salt) and he didn't even laugh at me. What a nice young man.
