Just to keep things lightened up a bit, I want to share something that pops into my head at the oddest moments, generally when I need a laugh or when I’m thinking about rocks. Today happened to be one of the days I needed a good laugh.
Last year I was watching an episode of Renovation Nation on Planet Green. Steve Thomas, the host of the show, was helping a skilled stone mason install a floor and Steve had a brief conversation with this man about the particular stone they were using.
The stone mason said this particular stone was mined locally, keeping transportation costs to a minimum, an environmentally friendly issue. He went on to say that this particular variety was a mica known as schist. This particular one is part of a group of schists in the Massachusetts area known as horst. Seriously, that’s the name of it.
It gets better. This is the schist that underlies most of the University of Massachusetts. Steve Thomas observed that their graduates got an education on a rock solid foundation of horst schist.
Now you can share the giggle and pass it on, as I often do. No sense keeping it to ourselves.
